Apart from the mild weather, beaches and internationally recognised golf courses, Albufeira also has a rich gastronomy.
Here, the fish and shellfish owe their freshness to the presence of the sea and the long tradition of fishing. Enjoy a unique and varied gastronomic experience and try out some of our regional dishes: caldeirada fish stew, clams prepared in a cataplana, tuna with onions, grilled sardines, rice with octopus and Guia piri piri chicken.
Nor should you miss the chance to visit the council at the time of the different culinary events that are held throughout the year and immerse yourself in the huge variety of regional cuisine. The Guia Chicken Festival and the Sardine Festival are the two that take place in August.
The Fishermen’s Festival during the first weekend in September and the Festival of Gastronomy at the end of the same month are two of the best known. If you prefer, you can also try out the most refined Portuguese and international cuisine in the council´s different restaurants.
